National Skilled Nursing Week is held annually in May to recognize long-term care professionals that care for our residents in Skilled Nursing Facilities. This year’s National Skilled Nursing Week is May 11 – 17 and the theme is “Tapestry of Life” which was released by the American Health Care Association (AHCA).

“Tapestry of Life highlights the meaningful stories that make up each person’s journey in skilled nursing care. From residents and families to caregivers and staff, everyone adds a unique thread that is woven into this vibrant tapestry. This theme celebrates the connections, resilience and strength that unite us all.” National Skilled Nursing Care Week

Along with the celebration of National Skilled Nursing Week, National Nurses Week will be celebrated May 6 – 12. May 6 is Florence Nightengale’s birthday, the Pioneer of Modern Nursing. Florence Nightengale represents the foundation of modern nursing through nursing education, infection prevention, evidence-based analysis, and policy formation.

National Nurses Week 2025’s theme per American Nurses Association (ANA) is “The Power of Nurses”. The theme celebrates the vital role that nurses play in healthcare to our residents/patients and their families.

The America Association of Post Acute Care Nurses (AAPACN) are celebrating “Caring for Generations” for National Nurses Week 2025.

May Days of Recognition

May 6 – Nurse Assessment Coordinator (NAC) Day
May 7 – Nurse Leader Day
May 8 – National Student Nurses Day
May 23 – Medical Coder Day

While nursing staff recognition is well deserved, so is that of medical coders – who ensure the accurate documentation and coding of resident’s medical records. They translate provider documentation into standardized codes that are essential for billing, reimbursement, and accuracy of the medical record.

At MDS Consultants our team consists of Nurses, Nurse Assessments Coordinators, Nurse Leaders, and Medical Coders that focus on collaboration with Skilled Nursing Facilities to ensure accuracy of the resident’s medical records.
